Drawing and painting are the primary focus of this class, but we also do some printmaking and glass etching. Students will do a variety of drawings using pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, and scratchboard. Various techniques and styles of painting will be explored through acrylic, watercolor, and pastel.

Projects and Goals:

1st quarter has decided to vote on projects and complete them together verse coming up with their own projects.

 Project #1: Recycled Grounds: (worth 20pts)

Students will draw an object that shows expression and movement on recycled paper.

Goals:

  1. I will use detail to make my object look real. 
  2. I will find a recycled material with unique print to draw on.
  3. I will do three sketches on tracing paper prior to drawing on my recycled material.
 
Project #2: Scattered Image (worth 100pts)
Students will learn about value through this project. 
 
Goals:

  1. I will enlarge my drawn image on a 12”x18” paper using the grid method if needed.
  2. I will break up my object with lines or shapes using patterns that overlap my lines of the object, which create a puzzle like effect.
  3. I will create two value scales that show my knowledge of shading.
  4. I will apply a range of value altering the direction of value with of the shapes created in my object/background.
Project #3: Perspective Choice Drawing:
Students will learn how to use perspective within their drawings. 
 
Goals:
  1. I will create a drawing that shows either one-point or two-point perspective in a unique way.
  2. I will use 12”x18” paper or larger after creating my sketches to do my final drawing.
  3. I will make sure that all my converging lines go back to the vanishing point. 
  4. I will apply value/shading to my piece to make it look as though there is depth in my drawing.
